A better parallel would be not being able to replace the tires on your Audi. After a few years the Audi's function would be significantly degraded...I mean sure technically you could just drive on the rims just as technically you can use a laptop with a dead battery at the coffee shop given a little luck and packing your own extension cord. That's not to say that the MBP's profile of compromises and benefits doesn't work for some people. But whether a glued in battery is a signifier of high or low quality is a matter of subjective opinion not soundly deduced objective fact.
