my biggest problem with keyboard layouts always was, that with a german QWERTZ layout it was pretty much impossible to use (){}[]<> efficiently. i tried NEO and DVORAK but somehow the english layout worked best.i still need to type umlauts (äöü) and ß, so i made a custom layout. you can find it on github: https://github.com/bmaeser/coDE (osx only, sorry)
